February Half Term Activities in Burton Upon Trent.


With the first Half Term of 2025 fast approaching we look at some of the ways to keep young minds entertained when school is out. From building robots to sport clubs and feeding new lambs, explore activities in and around Burton to keep youngsters entertained in the school holidays.

Create your own computer game or code a robot at the Stem Venturi holiday club

Put your kids engineering and problem-solving skills to the test with a week of fun and creative activities. Learn to build a robot, code computer games or create 3D designs with a week of themed activities for 5 to 12-year-olds.

Based at the Mease Spencer Academy the holiday club is run by former engineer Holly Davies and is part of the education outreach project STEM Venturi which offers young people the opportunity to develop their science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) skills. Sessions are run from 9am till 4pm at the Mease Spencer Academy, Carsington Road, Hilton and can be booked either for one day or the whole week.

Meet the new lambs at the National Forest Adventure Farm, in Tatenhill.

The National Forest Adventure Farm will be alive with the bustling patter of tiny hooves and feet as hundreds of new lambs, chicks, piglets and kid goats arrive as part of the New Life on the Farm event. Try bottle feeding baby lambs, meet the new arrivals or find out more about rural life on a farm as the popular event returns for 2025. The farm’s Lambing Live Tent will also return with the ‘Ewe Tube’ channel even offering the possibility to see a spring lamb being born in the sheep maternity ward, which will be home to 95 ewes this half term.

Try your hand at being a farmer for the day with the mend the broken fences game, build a miniature scarecrow, or meet the new animals on the 40-acre farm park. There is also the chance to have a go with the lambing simulator or milk the model cow Molly. Entrance to New Life on the Farm includes all the usual farm favourites including pedal Go-Karts, frisbee golf, Jurassic Canyon sand fossil dig, tractor rides, animal barn, giant jumping pillows and JCB Big Dig Zone.

Held from Saturday 15 th to Sunday 23 rd February, tickets start from £14.50 and can be booked online.

Explore the Animals in Remembrance Outdoor Trail at the National Memorial Arboretum.

On this trail around the National Memorial Arboretum, in Alrewas, you will discover mascots, mythical creatures and real stories of animals that served in the Armed Forces. A moving tribute to the animals that support and serve with the Armed forces, there is also a free arts and craft session where you can create a purple poppy, the symbol of Remembrance for animals that have died in service. There will also be interactive storytelling workshops and the sites other activities such as the Stick Man Outdoor Trail and outdoor play areas will also be open.

Put your football skills to the test at Burton Albion Football Club’s sports camps.

Perfect for players of all abilities, the Burton Albion Community Trust (BACT) Football Holiday Camps combine fun-filled football activities, professional coaching, and team-building games in a safe and supportive environment. Your child will not only improve their skills but also make new friends and build confidence on and off the pitch. Sessions run from 9am until 3pm with youngsters needing to bring molded football boots and shinpads to take part.

Discover hidden treasure at Alton Towers swashbuckling pirate takeover.

The pirates of Mutiny Bay take over the resort for a swashbuckling family adventure at the Staffordshire theme park this half term. Whether stopping for the night or enjoying a day trip, parts of the park including Mutiny Bay, Sharkbait Reef by Sea Life, CBeebies Land and Towers Street will be open for the family friendly pirate takeover. Take on the treasure hunt and explore Battle Galleons Seadog Starkey’s sailing school before catching a pirate themed show or exploring the budding buccaneers favourite mini rides.
