A message on The Winery's website states that the Burton-on-Trent bar and restaurant will close permanently on 2nd February 2025.
The restaurant, formerly known as the Abbey Inn, is currently owned by Leigh and Cathy Parry, who took over in 2019.
Gareth Prince, director of the financial services business Begbies Traynor, has been appointed by the owners to manage the company's liquidation.
Mr Prince highlighted the difficulties currently facing the bar and restaurant industry. He said: "Many bars and restaurants are under pressure at the moment, and this iconic local restaurant will be missed by the community, as well as the many customers who enjoyed its food and service from its talented team."
He added: "We are working closely with the owners, affected employees, and creditors to support them through the winding-down process. Customers with enquiries about deposits or vouchers should contact winery.burton@btguk.com."
The historic Burton restaurant is built on the site of the 13th-century abbey, incorporating parts of the original structure.
The Abbey Inn began trading as a restaurant in 1975, before closing and reopening as The Winery in 2008.
The future of the building remains uncertain. For now, we must bid farewell to this iconic Burton restaurant.
