October ‘24: Local Events Guide
From fright nights to horror film screenings and scary escape rooms, if you are looking for a spooky way to spend your Halloween this October, we have rounded up some of the town’s closest fright filled experiences.
Screamfest fright nights
Various nights in October including Halloween, Screamfest is based at the National Forest Adventure Farm, in Postern Road, Tatenhill, DE13 9SJ.

Award winning fright nights which are sure to shock and scare with their Halloween horror festival of fun. With six themed scare mazes including their most intense scare yet New for 2024 Hellcatraz expect the unexpected as you take on the crazed clowns, demons and nightmares at the farm. With more shocks and frights than ever before - Hellcatraz – will transport visitors to a place far worse than hell where you are guaranteed to get your heart racing as you are separated, isolated and subjected to the most scream inducing scare possible.
For the first time ever, be prepared to get up close and personal with the live actors as they are trained to reach out and brush your hand, sneak up and catch your hair or grab your arm as you run past. Starting on Friday 11th October Screamfest runs for 14 nights up until Saturday 2nd November. Spread out over the whole 40 acre park taking in outdoor and indoor mazes, there will also be live music, extreme fright acts, fairground rides, street food stalls and a licensed bar, with fire breathers and walkabout actors ready to scare.
Attractions include clown crazed Freakout on Tour, maize maze scare attraction Creed Farm, nightmare inducing Insomnia, apocalyptic mayhem Hillbilly Joe’s Zombie Zoo and last year’s latest addition Area 52 which sees visitors battle 5 acres of outdoor interactive scare in a first for the farm with its new terrifying tractor trailer ride. Be warned Screamfest is a scary experience and not recommended for under 16s. Under 16s will not be admitted without a 21+ year responsible adult and must be supervised at all times.
Burton Gaol Ghost walk
Thursday 31 st October, meet at the Royal Oak Pub, in Market Place, Starts 7pm and lasts an hour with a £5 drinks voucher to enjoy a stiff drink after the walk.

Step into all things paranormal as you delve deep into the other worldly goings on in Burton. With legends connected to the Holy Grail, Peaky Blinders, Mary Queen of Scots and many more the haunted walk gives you a look into the darker side of Burton on Trent. Included on the hour tour is Burton Gaol in Market Place which used to hold prisoners in the town. Its first inmate was a murderer from Alrewas in the 1270s. Now the Royal Oak pub the building has an interesting history switching from pub to prison to vicarage and is no stranger to ghosts including a witch, gaoler and priest.
Expect the unexpected with past walks having seen the spirits of local abbots and many more as you come face to face with the haunting past of the town which is laced with tragedy, humour and intrigue.

Take on Burton’s newest escape room at Escape Time. Being unveiled in time for Halloween the new horror themed room will see guests take on a series of challenges and puzzles to beat the riddles and get out within 60 minutes. Set in an eerie dolls house right out of a kid’s worst nightmare expect plenty of twists and turns as you pit your wits against the creepiest escape room in town. Replacing the town’s previous scare room Freak Show Circus it is certain to get your heart racing as you are against the clock to escape the evil clutches of the nightmarish dolls.

A thrilling Halloween outdoor cinema experience with a screening of the Halloween classic, SCREAM! Bring a blanket or camping chair, wrap up warm, and watch Scream on a giant cinema screen under the stars! Plus a spooky soundtrack to enjoy before the movie with specially curated songs. Halloween family disco
Saturday 2nd November, The Blacksmiths Arms, Main Street, Branston, 4pm till 8.30pm

Fancy dress disco and family event at the Blacksmiths Arms. With prizes for the best costumes it is a family fun spooktacular with plenty to keep the little ones entertained.

Inspired by some of the biggest pumpkin patches in the world, Burton’s Pumpkin Village offers live music, entertainment, seasonal stalls and 30 acres of pickable pumpkins. Open on selected dates throughout October from 10am till 4pm there is a licensed bar and street food stalls as well as roaming performers and a fairground carousel to keep the kids entertained with live music from a variety of acoustic and country bands. The event is also open to four legged friends as well with families encouraged to bring their dog for the autumn countryside event.
The largest pumpkin haul yet for the farm as well there will be up to 500,000 of the fresh squashes in all shapes and sizes to pick in the 30-acre pumpkin patch.
