Sonic Boom! Council’s cultural approach earns national recognition with prestigious LGC award shortlisting.
In an exciting triumph for local culture, East Staffordshire Borough Council’s ‘place making through music’ project, which encapsulates the Sonic Boom Music festival, has secured a coveted spot on the prestigious Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards shortlist!

The initiative, shaped and delivered in conjunction with communities to reimagine the town’s rich heritage for live music, has been shortlisted in the 'Public/Private Partnership' category, recognising the Council’s strategic collaboration with Future Yard CIC and Sonic Boom Music CIC.
The project, envisaged to play a key role in place and tourism strategies being pursued by the Council, along with the scope to add value to its regeneration priorities, started out as a series of call outs and meetings with local people with a passion for music, supported by Future Yard CIC, and quickly became Sonic Boom Music CIC.
Sonic Boom Music CIC exists to transform Burton's musical landscape by creating opportunities, nurturing talent, and building a sustainable music economy. Their mission centres on making music accessible to all, developing pathways for young musicians, and establishing Burton as a vibrant hub for live music and creative expression, believing in ‘the power of music to change a town’.
The shortlisted organisations will now complete presentations and interviews to a specific judging panel made up of senior and influential figures within local government.
This recognition comes at a significant moment, as today East Staffordshire Borough Council has announced a further commitment to supporting arts and culture with an additional two years funding and delivery of the Sonic Boom Music Festival, which will include a main stage with local and national artists, a series of ‘aftershock’ gigs across the town, as well as an education programme for young people.
Cllr Paul Walker, Cabinet Member for Tourism and Cultural Development, said: "This recognition celebrates the power of innovative partnerships. Together with Future Yard CIC and Sonic Boom Music CIC, we're creating something truly special for Burton upon Trent’s future."
